
La Flotte, a nice fishermen village grew up from the district of « Puits Lizet » in middle-age toward Château des Mauléons which may have been realized close to the actual church. At 16th century, the port was extended because more and more merchandising exchange like wine or vinegar and salt…
Many trade ships stopped over in La Flotte coming from Norway, Nederland, Spain and America, to buy goods on Ré Island.

The guays are called “Gabriel Sénac de Meilhan” in memory of the Intendant of Ré (under Louis the 15th reign) who in 1768 was the headmaster of this building. The pier was built in 1860. It lies down to 200m long which a very beautiful half-circle shape.
Today the East quay is the side where you can see beautiful old sailing boats.
The Pedestrian streets
With a lot of shops close to the port, art galleries, clothes, presents and so on…and of course the market place in medieval style which is every morning in full activity.

A very nice and sheltered beach, ideal for families and ready to access for disabled persons.
