The church

Visible for far, and built with a highly distinctive shape, the bell into the tower of Ste Catherine Church gives the rhythm of the life in La Flotte.

This church is supposed to have been first, the Chapel of the “Mauléons’Castle”. Only the southern door of that edifice remains, after the destruction of the castle during the religious war in 1575.

From 16th to 18th century, the church was transformed. The Bell Tower was raised up in 1765 with stones from Chateliers’Abbey.

This church is a large building which can welcome more than 2000 persons. The Huge stained glass windows date from 19th century. A bell realized in 1632, exposed inside the church is famous because of its very distinguished godfather: Cardinal de Richelieu.
