In 1625, King Louis the 13th resolved to defend the island against Protestants’ attacks. It’s the reason why he commanded the building of “Fort de la Prée” which was realised with a part of the stones from Chateliers’ Abbey. It was a dominant place until 1790, then it was gradually abandoned.

Property of the Justice Ministry, the fort has been partially restored and received the “Chef d’oeuvre en peril” award in 1987.
